Right to manage
As a Council tenant, you have a Right to Manage. This means you have the option to take over responsibility for managing housing services from Derby Homes by creating a Tenant Management Organisation (TMO) with other tenants and following the established Right to Manage procedures - Right to Manage guidance - GOV.UK
What is a Tenant Management Organisation (TMO)?
A TMO is a group of tenants set up to manage the housing services of a group of homes. They are a legal body that enters into a management agreement with the landlord and receives funding from them to deliver the services laid out in the agreement.
In order for the proposal to be accepted, TMO’s need the support of the majority of residents that will be affected by the agreement. They will also be assessed by an independent organisation to make sure they are competent to manage their proposed services.
How to set up a Tenant Management Organisation (TMO)
There is set guidance on how to set up a TMO on the Governments website.
