Lodgers
If you are a secure tenant, you have the right to take in lodgers. You don't need our permission, but you should still let us know if you have additional people living in your home. If you are on an introductory tenancy, you cannot take in a lodger.
Conditions
- Taking in a lodger must not create overcrowding
- You will be responsible for legally evicting your lodger if you want them to leave
- If you receive benefits, you must tell Derby City Council that you have lodgers. This may reduce the benefits you are entitled to
Subletting your property
If you are a secure tenant and want to sub-let part of your home, you must get permission from us first. You cannot sublet your whole home. If you are on an introductory tenancy, you cannot sublet your property.
