At home alarms
Some of our properties are fitted with at-home alarm equipment, sometimes called telecare equipment. This equipment is designed to help keep you safe.
It allows you to contact Derby Carelink any time of the day or night if you need help in an emergency. The equipment also links the smoke alarm in your property to Derby Carelink. This means that they will contact emergency services if there is a fire.
This equipment is installed free of charge and is classed as a necessary part of the property. You cannot refuse to have it fitted.
New at-home alarm equipment replacement programme - 2020
You will receive a letter from the company who will be installing the new equipment. They are called Legrand. The letter will tell you when they will be coming to your home to fit the equipment.
You must make sure you have completed and returned the form that was sent to you with your details. This is very important as Derby Carelink need this information to help you in an emergency.
Your property may already have old telecare equipment in it. If it does, it will be replaced. The contractor will make good the removal of any old equipment by putting a cover over the space on the wall that it was fixed to. If you have pullchords in your home they will be removed.
The new equipment that will be fitted is a small, wall-mounted console which will be linked to your telephone line.
You will also be given one pendant which can be worn around your neck, on your wrist or clipped to a belt. Both the console and the pendant have a button you can press if you need help.
If you do not have a telephone line, the new equipment will be left with you. This is because it needs a telephone line to work. If this is the case at your home, you must keep the equipment securely so that it can either be used by yourself at a later date or by the next person who moves into the property.
