Working for Us

What our employees say about working for Derby Homes

In 2010 we entered the Times 100 employee survey and received accreditation as a One to Watch Company. The survey is carried out by Best Companies for the Sunday Times to identify and celebrate the best small, mid-size and large workplaces in the UK. Employees from participating organisations are surveyed using a thorough methodology and the results are used to compile lists of the 100 top companies in each size category, which are then published in The Sunday Times.

As part of this survey, Derby Homes employees were asked “What makes Derby Homes a great place to work?” Here’s what some of our employees said:

“Derby Homes is a great place to work. The people within it, from front line to back office, believe that they can make a difference to people's lives by aiming to do their best every day.”

“Derby Homes has the right balance between home life and work life, they understand what is involved when you are a parent, spouse, carer and in full time work.”

“Individual teams work well. I think that within your own team you are respected and treated fairly. Individual team managers appreciate the work of their team and communicate this to them very well. “

“Housing work is about people and that makes it interesting, especially as we involve staff and tenants in our work. Working in a political environment makes it challenging, but team working is the key to Derby Homes’ success. We’re willing to admit we’re not perfect and want to improve.”

“The staff are valued and their views are taken into account.”

“We’ve got good training opportunities and a strong team leader. Derby Homes is a modern and professional organisation, compared to previous organisations I’ve worked for.”

“I’ve worked for the organisation for a number of years, starting as an Area Clerk and working my way up to a management role. I feel I’ve been supported and encouraged by my line managers to have the confidence to apply for the job opportunities that have arisen in the organisation.”

“At Derby Homes you’re not afraid to say what you think about any situation. I feel valued and I’m allowed to make my own decisions. The atmosphere is very friendly and we are able to have a laugh as well as get our work done. I’m very happy to continue to work here.”

“The Director of the organisation is excellent. He has time for all the employees and is the only Director that I’ve known who knows the names of his employees. The service that the organisation provides is of a very high standard.”

“This is very much a community organisation and has strong links with all areas of the city.”

“There is a strong sense of wanting to do the best for social housing in Derby that comes from the very top and permeates down.”

“The improvements that senior management and the Chief Executive have made since the last survey have greatly improved staff morale.”
