Volunteering
Volunteering can give you the opportunity to try something new, gain experience, develop skills, improve your career prospects, build confidence and meet new people. We offer support and training when you volunteer with us.
Customer consultations
We want to make it easier for you to give us feedback and insight on our services and policies. We’ve developed a customer consultation plan called ‘Your Service, Your Say’. This will give you the opportunity to help shape our policies, and it ensures that the services we deliver are fair, accessible, and put you first.
We consult on a wide range of subjects and issues. This helps us guarantee that any improvements we make to our policies and service put take your views and experiences into account. We’re especially interested to hear from you if you’ve had direct experience of a particular service and can give us feedback based on what you thought of it. Was the policy clear? Did you have any particular difficulties?
We publish consultations regularly, whenever there’s a policy review that could use some input from you or where a proposed change to a service might have an impact on you.
Virtual panel
We’ve recently launched our Virtual Panel: a new way for you to get involved with us remotely and have your say on the service areas that matter to you. This is a chance to directly impact the services that affect you, and you don’t even have to leave the house!
Choose the service areas that you’re interested in, and when we hold a consultation we’ll send you an email with a link to a survey to complete. It’s that simple! You can chose your own level of engagement, and there is no obligation to fill out any of the consultations you get sent.
Customer Voice
The Customer Voice is a group of volunteers, made up of Derby Homes’ tenants, who play a key role in making sure Derby Homes offers the best service to you. They work with Derby Homes by reviewing services and report to the Operational Board on how these services could be improved. This means that Derby Homes understands exactly how their services affect tenants and helps them to shape their services.
Members of the Customer Voice receive ongoing training and support to ensure they understand the services offered by Derby Homes and how they affect tenants throughout the City.
What do they do?

- Turn your grumbles into action.
Derby Association of Community Partners
The Derby Association of Community Partners (DACP) is a voluntary organisation for tenants, community groups and other partner agencies.
They volunteer their time to make sure Derby Homes are providing tenants with an excellent service. They have a good, in-depth knowledge of housing issues and how Derby Homes operates as a company.
The DACP have their own fund to support community groups, voluntary or not-for-profit organisations who deliver projects or services in Derby City that benefit the local community and Derby Homes tenants.
You can apply for a grant to fund a project or community initiative that exist to bring benefit to Derby communities. Items that are covered include:
- Equipment
- Training - such as paying for the cost of courses
- Events - such as the cost of renting a venue
- Publicity - such as printing flyers or placing adverts
- Start-up costs
- Food - such as refreshments for an event
The maximum amount we would suggest applying for is £2500, but all applications are considered on an individual basis and awarded accordingly.
Please note: grants will not be granted for the repair or maintenance of properties or buildings. If the DACP have already supported your project in the last two years, it may not be supported again.
