Councillor Fareed Hussain

Vice Chair

Fareed worked for Derby and Derbyshire for the past 30 years as Social Worker. He was first elected to the Council in 1991 from Babington Ward and has held many positions since.

Most recently he was the Cabinet Member for Children and Young People. He was Vice Chair of Housing Committee in the mid 90s under an older structure and became a Derby Homes Board Member a few years later.

Fareed has retired from his job with Derbyshire County Council and devotes most of his energy and efforts to his new portfolio responsibilities. He enjoys walking and watching cricket..

Councillor Rob Cooper

Rob is from Derby and after leaving school he joined the British army, serving six years. When Rob left the army he came back to his home city and began work in the private sector, working for Balfour Beatty, Amey and SSE plc. In 2015 Rob set up his own company which specialises in the housing development industry.

Rob was elected as a councillor for Chaddesden Ward in 2018. He has been involved in politics for three years and has a passion for his home city.

In his personal time, Rob likes to watch football, spend time with his family and play golf in good weather.

 Mike Ainsley  

Mike Ainsley (Chair of Derby Homes)

Independent Member

Mike is a retired comprehensive school Headteacher who now works as an education consultant. He has a long interest in social housing and was a board member of Derwent Living for fifteen years before retiring and joining Derby Homes.

At Derwent Living, he chaired the Operations Committee for ten years. He also served as a member of Derby City Council for nine years, from 1987 to 1996, representing Abbey Ward.

As well as his interest in housing, Mike is interested in the arts and currently sits on the board of Derby Jazz

 Jsan Shepherd

Jsan has over 20 years experience working in the social housing sector and has worked as a senior housing manager at neighbouring organisations in the East Midlands. She has recently set up her own business and is currently engaged in coaching, consultancy and project management work.

Jsan is passionate about good quality social housing and the positive impact well designed and delivered services can have on communities.

She lives in Nottingham, but was brought up in Derby and still has family living in the area, maintaining close links with the City.

Jsan is the Board's Champion for Equalities and Hate Crime.

Iain has been a member of the Board of Derby Homes since its inception and is Chair of the Audit Committee. Iain is the Board's Champion for Health & Safety and for Safeguarding.

He is a former local authority Chief Executive and former United Nations Chief Executive of the City of Pristina, Kosovo. Iain is also a former national President and Chairman of a number of professional Associations.

Iain is a Fellow of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors and a Member of the Chartered Management Institute.

Tenant Board Member

Bob has lived in Derby since 1987, spending the last 25 years in Alvaston. He served in the Royal Air Force joining at the tender age of 16. Since leaving the RAF, he has spent most of his working life in a customer service environment. He also spent time as an area manager for a Contract Security Company.

Bob became a Derby Homes tenant in 2011 and served on the Tenant Panel, City and Operational Boards, before being appointed to the Board of Derby Homes.

He looks forward to continuing to represent tenants at Board level. Bob is the Board's Champion for Customer Service.

 Sophia Gutsa - Tenant Board Member

Sophia has lived in Derby since 2004. She worked and developed herself academically in Applied Criminology with Psychology at Derby University and currently works for the Council as a Relief Assistant Unit Manager.

Sophia also holds a post as a Workplace Organiser, Health and Safety Representative for the Derby City Council branch of the GMB. In 2017, she was privileged to be nominated as a Delegate speaker to represent the Derby branch and presented the first ever Motion the branch had submitted at the National Equality Conference in Wales.

Sophia enjoys working to empower the residents of Derby and likes to challenge difficult situations to achieve positive outcome.

 Dennis Rees

Dennis Rees OBE

Tenant Board Member

Dennis has lived in Derby for over 30 years and is still very active in the local community.

In 2009, Dennis was awarded the OBE for his services to social housing.

He continues his advocacy for tenants, community initiatives and groups by offering support, funding or even just becoming a figurehead for a number of causes.

He still attends a monthly tenant forum and more recently worked with the onsite team of
Parkland View Extra Care Scheme to support the residents in developing their own forum.
