Disabled applicants

The Disability Discrimination Act defines a disabled person as having, ‘a physical or mental impairment, which has a substantial and long-term adverse effect on someone’s ability to carry out normal day to day activities’. If you’re disabled, we want to give you every opportunity to be successful when applying for a job with us. We offer support in three main ways:

1. Derby City Council’s jobseeker’s register

This helps disabled people apply for jobs with Derby Homes and Derby City Council. Once you join the scheme, you’ll receive regular vacancy updates and help with ‘selling’ yourself on application forms and at interviews. For more details, call Susan Sanghera on 01332 255695, minicom 01332 258427 or email susan.sanghera@derby.gov.uk.

2. Guaranteed interviews

We guarantee an interview to any disabled person who meets the essential requirements of the job. To apply under the ‘guaranteed interview’ scheme, please check the relevant box on the application form. If you don’t want to use the scheme, and would prefer to be judged purely on your own merits, please apply in the usual way.

3. Reasonable adjustments for interviews and tests

We want you to do well in the recruitment process and are keen to hear if there are any other ways we can help. You might need a car parking space, a sign language interpreter, information in another format, or extra time for your interview.

Whatever your needs, please note this on your application form and we will do our best to accommodate you.
