Mediation service
Derby Homes offers a free mediation service. It is used to resolve issues between two or more people. It can be effective either when someone is in breach of their tenancy conditions or if a person’s actions are causing a nuisance.
When relations between people break down or individuals cause a nuisance to others, often the first thought is that it can only be resolved through court action. The legal processes involved in taking court action are both long and expensive. They may not even resolve the underlying issues.
We encourage you to inform us if you have any issues and consider mediation as a way of improving the situation.
Our mediation service is unbiased, private, confidential and informal. It is delivered by our qualified Mediation Officer along with trained volunteers who have excellent communication and listening skills. It has been in place since August 2011 and has already had some success in resolving issues.
The service is for tenants, leaseholders and others within the community. If you or someone you know has an issue or an ongoing dispute with someone else, ask your housing officer about a mediation referral.
If you are interested in training as a volunteer, please contact Lisa Newman on 01332 711000
