YMCA Derbyshire

YMCA Derbyshire has been serving the local community since its foundation in 1847. Today it provides supported housing for 88 vulnerable and homeless people aged 16 to 64 at its Campus for Learning and Development in Derby, as well as a tenancy sustainment service, learning and development programmes for young people and those out of work and various schemes for children. The charity also runs the Passport Plus programme in Derby for people aged over 19 who need some extra help and support to find work and live independently.

Young people enrolled on the charity’s training programmes work with volunteers and members of the charity’s staff to prepare hot lunches for those in sheltered accommodation or extra care homes across Derby, including those operated by Derby Homes.

The Campus for Learning and Development, officially opened in 2010, features a popular café open to members of the public as well as meeting and conference facilities with full catering available.

YMCA Derbyshire also runs various other projects aimed at achieving sustainable community development across the county. These include a furniture project based in Chesterfield and a new social enterprise company – Renew Maintenance – which undertakes all types of property maintenance and renovation while providing work experience for trainees. The company has carried out renovation work for Derby Homes, preparing void properties for new tenants.
