Find a home
We manage around 13,800 homes in Derby and offer a range of affordable accommodation, which includes family homes, maisonettes, flats, apartments and supported accommodation (specially designed with older people in mind).
Our family homes have two, three or four bedrooms and are within easy reach of shops and schools. Call our Enquiry Centre on 01332 711000 for details of typical rents for a furnished or unfurnished family home.
In some parts of the city, we have attractive two and three bedroom maisonettes. Rents are very reasonable. Call us on 01332 711000 for the latest weekly rent charges.
We have a variety of self-contained flats and apartments, with one or two bedrooms, throughout the city. Our flats are ideal for young, single people or couples looking to rent for the first time. Most of our flats are in low-rise buildings, which helps make them feel part of the surrounding neighbourhood.
Our only high-rise apartment building is Rivermead House. It's close to the city centre and offers accommodation to people of all ages. With views of the river, these apartments have the added benefit of a concierge service.
You can also rent a garage with Derby Homes. If you would like to get more information on renting a garage with us please click here.
What you need to do
You only need to complete one application form to join the housing register, you can either do this by collecting a Derby Homefinder application form from your nearest housing office or completing an online application on the Derby Homefinder website. Once you’re registered, you can look for properties using Derby Homefinder. This is a citywide service, which gives you information about properties available to rent.
After your housing need has been assessed you will be able to express interest in (or bid for) three properties within your band, before bidding for a property you will have to think that if offered would you accept the property? If you unreasonably refuse three properties, you will be seen as adequately housed for a six month period, this will drastically reduce your chances of finding a new home during this time.
What is an unreasonable refusal?
The following are examples of unreasonable refusal reasons:
- you have a pet and you have bid for a property where pets are not allowed
- you do not want to live in an area and you have bid for a property there
- you want your own garden and have bid for a property with no garden or a communal garden
- you do not want to live in that type of property and you have bid for that property type
- you are unable, or not ready, or cannot afford to move
For more information about homes to let, contact your nearest housing office or visit the Housing Options Centre on Derwent Street.
