Independent Board Members
Bob Osler (Chair of Derby Homes)
Bob worked within two major corporate businesses, Marks and Spencer plc and Coats Viyella plc, before starting his own international management consultancy and textile procurement businesses. He joined the Derby Homes Board in 2002 with the main aim of taking an active role in growing and securing the sustainability of social housing in Derby. Bob’s major aims are to ensure:
Ø That affordable housing in Derby is sustainable so that all our tenants and leaseholders will be properly catered for in the years to come
Ø That our most venerable tenants needs are catered for
Ø That the youngsters on our estates views are taken into account when shaping our estates.
Tabani Ndlovu
Tabani is an experienced risk management and governance professional who passionately follows corporate governance issues. Alongside his consultancy business, Tabani is currently finishing off a PhD, researching the governance systems of selected financial institutions, particularly in the wake of the 2007-8 financial crisis. He also offers sessional lectures in Corporate Governance and Sustainability at a Nottingham based university. Tabani is a Fellow of the Institute of Directors (IOD), and has previously sat on the board of SOFA Reuse, where he was Vice Chair. Until recently, Tabani was a Board member of North Notts Create Limited, North Nottinghamshire College and ProAct Security Services. At Derby Homes, he was chair of the Performance Management Committee and is a member of the Audit Committee.
Iain MacDonald
Iain has been a member of the Board of Derby Homes since its inception and is Chair of the Resources, Remuneration and Regeneration Committee. He is a former local authority Chief Executive and former United Nations Chief Executive of the City of Pristina, Kosovo. Iain is also a former national President and Chairman of a number of professional Associations. Currently he is engaged in Interim Management and Consultancy assignments. Iain is a Fellow of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors and a Member of the Chartered Management Institute.
Mark Menzies
Mark has over 30 years experience working in local government. He started his career working as a student Environmental Health Officer (EHO) for Chesterfield Borough Council in 1978 and qualified in Environmental Health in 1983. He spent the next 4 years working as an EHO at Mid Bedfordshire District Council. In 1987 he moved to Derby City Council as a Senior EHO specialising in Housing. He spent the next 24 years at the Council working in different aspects of housing at different levels. He left the Council in March 2011. For his last 10 years at the Council he was Director of Housing and Advice Services which has given him a very broad knowledge of all aspects of housing. During those 10 years Derby's Housing Service was recognised as "Excellent" by the Audit Commission, and Derby enjoyed national recognition for the quality of its service to tenants and other residents. Mark is keen to see this excellent reputation maintained.
Mike Ainsley
Mike is a retired comprehensive school Headteacher who now works as an education consultant. He has a long interest in social housing and was a board member of Derwent Living for 15 years before retiring and joining Derby Homes. At Derwent Living he chaired the Operations Committee for 10 years.
He also served as a member of Derby City Council for 9 years from 1987 to 1996, representing Abbey Ward.
As well as his interest in housing Mike is interested in the arts and currently sits on the board of Derby Jazz
