13th Annual Tenants Conference

The Derby Association of Community Partners Limited (DACP), held their 2006 Conference at The Spot last year. This seems to be a preferred site, with it being more or less central, plus it was all on one level, so much easier for the delegates to get about.

We had several organisations with their display boards in the small room adjacent to the main suite. Our display boards depicting the ‘Past, Present and Future’ of the tenant movement being one of the displays this year. Lots of people went to look around at all the information supplied.

We had delegates from our own tenant population, but also had tenants from both Mansfield and Leeds come along to support our event as well. We had presentations to people nominated by the tenants this year, and these went down very well, and those that received them were shell-shocked to say the least.

The icing on the cake for all of the 162 delegates was our afternoon speaker, the comedienne Ireene Ison. From the time she stepped onto the stage, till when she left to resounding applause, she had everyone in stitches. Her brand of humour was very refreshing and down to earth. A brilliant time was had by all.

The staff at the Spot were very good, with nothing being too much trouble for them, and, as usual at the Spot, the food was top notch.

The race is now on to find something equally entertaining, or even better, for next year, if that is at all possible!!
