Heating replacement programme
We are currently working around the city to replace heating systems for tenants who have electric storage radiators in their homes.
We are installing new gas central heating systems, which will provide a radiator with a thermostatic radiator valve in every room, and instant hot water. The condensing combination boilers being fitted are classed in energy efficiency Band A, which means they are over 95% energy efficient. Please note - the new system does not include a gas fire.
The programme is subject to funding which means that tenants will only be offered the opportunity to have the work done once – if you refuse, you won’t be able to change your mind in the future.
So please respond when we contact you about the work
The planned programme of work for 2005-2011 is:
2005 Cowsley and Sussex Circus
2006 Bingham Street
2007 Old Sinfin, New Sinfin, Austin and Chellaston
2008 Alvaston and Spondon
2009 Brook Street and Stockbrook Street
2010 Mackworth
2011 Chaddesden Park and Littleover

We have a legal responsibility to carry out an annual service and safety inspections in all Derby City Council properties. We take this responsibility for gas safety very seriously.
If you have fitted your own gas fire we can also carry out a service and safety inspection on it – provided you were issued with a permit by Derby Homes and the fire was installed by a CORGI registered engineer. We do this work because your gas fire will be connected to the chimney flue, which is our responsibility. You should not arrange to have your own gas appliances fitted without a permit from Derby Homes. All new gas appliances have to be registered with CORGI.
We carry out audit inspections on the work carried out by our contractors. This allows us to monitor their work and make any necessary changes or improvements. We have further improved this by having an independent company carry out quarterly audits.
During the first of these audit inspections we asked the engineers to look at tenants' own cookers and this highlighted concerns over the condition of some of the cookers. These appliances are not fitted by Derby Homes and we are not responsible for maintaining their safety. But over the past year our contractors have been installing cooker chains to tenants' own cookers. This improves safety by preventing the cookers from tipping over or being pulled away from the wall and pulling on the gas pipes.
Part of our success is due to raising the awareness of gas safety responsibilities and the need to maintain gas appliances to a high standard. This is also helped with your co-operation - allowing us access to your home.
Remember, It is important that you arrange to have your own gas cooker serviced and maintained by CORGI registered engineers.
