Homes Pride

In November 2002, the Homes Pride Programme received £81 million to bring all council properties up to the government's decent homes standard.  At this time we had 7,622 homes that didn't meet the standard – this represented 49% of all council homes in Derby.

To ensure prompt and quality delivery of the massive improvement programme, Derby Homes entered into a pioneering partnership arrangement with major construction companies.  The new arrangement meant that everyone should receive the same high quality standard of work.  The partners were:

  • • Bramall Construction Ltd# – work to kitchens, bathrooms and modernisation of non-traditionally built properties

    • Derby City Council's Commercial Services#  - (now Environmental Services) work to kitchens, bathrooms, new roofs, modernisation of pre-war properties and some welfare adaptation work

    • Lovell Partnerships Ltd# – work to kitchens and bathrooms

    • Vinshire Plumbing and Heating Ltd# – work to new and replacement Gas Central Heating systems.

Homes Pride was a 3 year programme that ended in March 2006. During this time we achieved:
  • • 6,747 New Bathrooms
    • 7,063 New Kitchens
  • • 98 Full Modernisations
  • • 1,811 New Roofs
  • • 764 Refurbishments of non-traditionally built homes
  • • 9,700 Routine electrical inspections
  • • 7,000 New gas central heating systems
  • • 11,000 Smoke alarms
  • • 8,000 Properties surveyed for the presence of asbestos
  • • 100 sites underwent asbestos removal
  • • 2,000 Homes surveyed under the Warmer Homes Scheme to assess insulation standards and upgrade as necessary.
