Tackling Nuisance and Anti Social Behaviour

Introduction

Neighbour nuisance and anti-social behaviour can cover a range of things. Examples include:

• playing music too loudly
• shouting and banging at unsocial times
• unruly animals
• criminal behaviour
• harassment
• in some cases, threats of violence or actual violence.

This section is designed to help you begin the process of resolving the problems you are having.

We have included details of other agencies that can also offer help and advice, as well as action we can take against our own tenants and others.

If you are suffering from a serious problem, such as violence or harassment, you should go straight to the Police.

But don’t forget to report it to your Local Housing Office#, as well.

When a problem first starts, the easiest way to sort it out is often by talking to your neighbour directly. Sometimes they may not be aware that their behaviour is causing anyone a problem. If you are able to explain to them why you are upset, this may be all that is needed to stop the problem at the start before it grows worse.

Tackling your neighbour may not always be the appropriate or easiest thing to do.

If you are a victim of anti-social behaviour from a neighbour, someone who lives on the estate or others, you can report it to:

• your Local Housing Office#
• staff at Cardinal Square
• your ward Councillor.

In each case, Derby Homes follows a laid down procedure to deal with your complaint.
