PRACTICAL SKILLS ‘TASTERS’ FOR LOCAL YOUNG PEOPLE - October 2005

Students from Derby schools are taking part in ‘taster’ sessions in plastering, bricklaying, joinery and painting and decorating as part of National Construction Week.

The Week has the aim of promoting construction-related occupations to young people in order to help bridge the current skills shortage in the industry.

Students from the Royal School for the Deaf, Murray Park, Bemrose and St Claires schools are among those taking the opportunity to gain hands-on experience of a range of practical skills.

The sessions are being arranged by Derby Homes, in conjunction with Derbyshire Education Business Partnership and the Construction Industry Training Board.

They are being held in conjunction with Derby Homes’ partners Lovell, Bramall and Derby City Council Commercial Services.
