Derby Homes tenants and leaseholders are being invited to a conference at which a £15 million programme of investments in council estates in the city will be outlined. The programme, entitled Estates Pride, is a five-year programme of identifying estate-based improvements and community initiatives to enhance the quality of life for residents in areas of council housing. The conference will take place on 28 April at the Riverside Centre, Pride Park, between 10am and 3pm. Three major projects have been developed following consultation with tenants and leaseholders during 2005: • Neighbourhood working. All public services will be delivered under the 'going local' agenda through five neighbourhood teams in the Osmaston/Allenton, Stockbrook, Normanton, Sinfin and Austin area. The teams will include a Neighbourhood and Environmental Action Team - NEAT, whose aims will be to enhance the local environment • Youth inclusion project. Teams will work with young people aged 12-16 who are at risk of offending and causing anti-social behaviour, providing youth clubs and learning opportunities. • Capital environmental Improvements. Work will include improvements to fencing, lighting, landscaping, parking and pathways. Shaun Bennett, Derby Homes Director of Investment and Regeneration said: "Year one spending has now been approved. Over the duration of the programme, Estates Pride will focus initially on 1970s estates, including flats, followed by 1950s estates and finally pre-war estates, concentrating on areas of low demand." Dennis Rees, Chair of Derby Homes said "It is important for us to make sure that we find out what improvements our customers want to see where they live - all of the work that is carried out will involve consultation with community panels, local councillors and residents." If any Derby Homes tenants or leaseholders would like to attend the Conference, contact Julie Wren on 01332 711064.
