The completion of Derby’s Homes Decent Homes Programme will be officially celebrated at an evening event (Thursday 13 April) at the Mayor’s Reception Room.
In 2003 Derby Homes, the arm’s length organisation that manages and maintains council homes on behalf of Derby City Council, launched their programme with the aim of bringing all its properties up to the Government’s decent homes standard by 2006. This has been achieved and makes Derby Homes one of the first organisations in the country to complete this.
Working in partnership with Bramall Construction, Lovell Partnerships Ltd, Derby City Council’s Environmental Services and Vinshires Plumbing and Heating, Derby Homes has carried out £120m of refurbishments to over 10,000 council homes by fitting kitchens, bathrooms, heating systems, windows and roofs where needed.
Tenants and leaseholders have been involved and consulted throughout the programme and customer satisfaction with work has continually improved.
Shaun Bennett, Director of Investment and Regeneration said: “The celebratory evening is a chance for us to officially celebrate the completion of decent homes and thank our contractor partners for all their hard work.”
Dennis Rees Chair of Derby Homes said “We called our decent homes programme ‘Homes Pride’ because we want all tenants to be, proud of their homes. Now this programme is complete we will work hard to maintain homes to this standard. Now we want to improve the appearance of Council estates. This is our next big programme, which we are calling ‘Estates Pride’ because we want to make all council estates places where people are proud to live and work in.”
