New figures from the city’s community safety partnership show that burglaries in Derby have dropped by almost 50% in three years.* This is thanks to the hard work of the Derby Burglary Reduction Team who target burglaries in the city’s worst affected areas and who work closely with Derby Homes’ Tenancy Enforcement Team to help reduce burglaries on our housing estates.
The police, security experts, community workers, drug rehabilitation agencies and tradesmen all work together to help reduce the number of burglaries taking place in Derby.
As part of this work, all Derby Homes tenants are offered free security surveys, with experts visiting homes to identify weaknesses. In many cases the team fits free locks and door chains and provides other security measures – all which aim to make our tenants feel safer in their homes.

* Burglaries in the city have fallen from 3,432 in the year to 31 March 2003 to 1,799 in 2004/05 and this is expected to fall to around 1,500 for the 12 months to 31 March 2006.
