PIZZA, POP AND POLITICS FOR YOUNG TENANTS - NOV 2006

Young residents of Shelton Lock are to speak out about the changes they want to see in their area and to propose a new name for a local park at a youth forum ‘pizza and pop’ night on Wednesday 22 November.

Representatives from Derbyshire Police, Derby Homes and Derby City Council’s Youth Service will be in the audience to listen to the ideas and comments. For the past six weeks, these three organisations have supported local tenants in the running of a youth club in Shelton Lock. Residents wanted to provide young people with a safe meeting place and have so far put on a series of successful weekly activities for youngsters. It is now hoped that the forum will highlight what young people want and need from their estates.

The ‘pizza and pop’ youth forum night was the brainchild of Lorraine Howe, Derby Homes Housing Officer, in order to promote greater involvement with young tenants. To encourage them to take more interest in the local area, the young people who attend on 22 November will also have the opportunity to officially name a park on Sinfin Avenue.

The youth forum will begin at 7pm at the Shelton Lock Community Welfare Club in Chellaston Road in Shelton Lock.
