The Silver Award was presented to Stuart  Hufton and Faye Brown at a special ceremony at the Hilton Birmingham Metropole Hotel, National Exhibition Centre, on Thursday May 11 2006 during the Safety and Health Expo 2006, the UK’s premier health and safety at work exhibition .This is the second Silver Award the company have won.

Phil Davies, Derby Homes’ Chief Executive, said: ‘Health and Safety and accident prevention is especially important to all involved with Derby Homes. Our contractors work in peoples’ homes, often with tenants and their families present, and so we know we need to take extra care. We have given a priority to training for managers, so that they can talk to staff and set the right example. Well done to all staff and managers involved in health and safety work.’

Dennis Rees, Chair of the Board at Derby Homes, said: ‘This is the second Silver Award Derby Homes has won. It shows we are keeping up the standard of health and safety in all the work we do. We are also implementing a lone worker protection system to improve the safety of staff. I am determined that we will win the top Gold award…maybe next year!’

David Rawlins, RoSPCA Awards Manager, said ‘Derby Homes have demonstrated how seriously they take health and safety management and are a fine example to many other companies. We would like to see more organisations following their lead by providing a positive example.’

The RoSPA Awards are not just about reducing the number of accidents and cases of ill health at work; they are also about ensuring that organisations have good health and safety management systems in place. They help to reinforce the message that good health and safety is good business and clearly demonstrate an organisation’s commitment to the achievement of high levels of performance in this crucial area.
