Gas Servicing

The Good News!

Derby Homes would like to thank all the tenants that have responded to the article last year Drastic Measures or Common Sense by allowing access to their homes for the annual gas safety checks and servicing to be completed.

We have serviced 98.73% of the homes owned by Derby City Council.Hopefully this will give tenants the peace of mind that gas appliances in their homes and those of their neighbours are safe.Don't forget that if you keep your first appointment you are entered into the £50 prize draw. Our partners, Vinshire, presented £1,100 in prizes this year.In addition we are giving away four free energy efficient light bulbs to all our tenants please ask the Vinshire engineer about this when he visits your home during the annual service.Although there has been a large reduction in the number of tenants that do not allow access, there continues to be a small number who do not conform.

Derby Homes have been successful in obtaining injunctions from the courts to gain access to these properties and have applied for the costs to be claimed from the tenants. There have been considerable costs and resources used by Derby Homes and Vinshire to achieve the figure of 98.73% access, most of which has been achieved by the partners sending extra letters and cold calling in order to gain access to as many properties as they can.Further letters are sent out by Derby Homes before the details are passed to the tenancy enforcement and legal teams.

All of this could be avoided if tenants would respond to the letters and rearrange the appointment for a suitable date. Derby Homes makes every effort to accommodate tenants needs. In some cases of persistent no access Derby Homes will look to recover the costs from the offending tenants.
