Fun in the sun….and in the rain!
During the Summer we play an active role in the many fun days that are held throughout the city. This year has been no exception.

Saturday 6 August - Morley and Mackworth
Terry Rogerson, Vice-Chair of Mackworth and Morley Community Panel gives us his report on their recent fun day…
This year we held our fun day at Christ the King Diocesan Centre in Mackworth.
Panel members and friends manned various stalls which included a raffle, tombola, cakes and bric-a-brac.
Special thanks need to be given to a number of people who helped out on the day:
• Father John Guest and all the staff from the Diocesan Centre • Ron and Marina for help with refreshments • Olive May for her handmade card stall • Carl Willis, Sue Featherstone and Mick Shaw from Derby Homes • Gwen Stubley, Chair and the events sub-committee • all people who manned stalls and helped out including Firemen from Kingsway’s Fire Brigade • Councillor Chris Williamson, Leader of Derby City Council for opening the event with the attendance of Councillors Ray Baxter, Richard Gerrard and Lisa Higginbottom who attend our panel meetings regularly when they are available.
You all contributed to a great day!

Sunday 7 August – Riverside West Community Panel, St Anne’s Regeneration Project and Friends of Markeaton Brook
This spectacular family fun day was the first of its kind to be held at Markeaton Recreation Ground…and it didn’t disappoint.
It was organised by local community groups and Riverside West Community Panel and supported by Derby Homes and Derby City Council along with agencies including:
• the Police • SureStart • When you wish upon a star charity.
Over 1,000 visitors enjoyed the sunny weather and a range of activities and attractions…but we could have accommodated more people so please make an effort to support your local community at any future events.
Saturday 13 August – Cowsley
Rain didn’t stop play
This year’s Derwent Community Panel fun day built on the success of last year’s event and was attended by around 250 local children and parents who enjoyed a free bouncy castle and refreshments and met the Tutbury Castle Ferrets - all despite the pouring rain!
A special thanks goes out to Jay Roulinson, Chair of Derwent Community Panel who organised the entire event himself. Also thank you to Derwent Community Panel members and Cowsley Local Housing Office staff who all attended the event on the day.
Saturday 20 August – Sussex Circus
The Sussex Circus fun day was held at the local housing office and included all the usual activities including refreshments and a bouncy castle to make sure local children were well entertained.
Local community groups in Derwent including Derwent FC and the Zambezi Association supported the local community panel and all helped contribute to a great day.
Thanks to Jean Flint, Community Panel Vice-Chair and Suzanne Wood from Derby Homes for all their help and support on the day.
This event was organised in association with Derwent FM 87.9FM who are now broadcasting in the local area.
