Young Volunteers

Young Volunteers

Last summer over 40 young people volunteered for the Faithworks project – working in local communities.  This year, a similar project was organised, called Fuel in Action.

Fuel in Action is a partnership between:

  • City Vision in Derby
  • Derby Homes
  • Derbyshire Police
  • Enthusiasm
  • Rolls Royce
  • Youth with a Mission.

During the first week in April,  volunteers carried out gardening projects in Allenton and Alvaston.  The Enthusiasm Project ran various activities with young people from the Osmaston and Allenton Estate, including clubs, music workshops and trips.  Enthusiasm aims to see young people fulfil their potential in life by:

  • diverting them from crime
  • building self esteem
  • raising aspirations
  • equipping others to aspire to excellence.

The Merrill Section of Derby Police worked with young people from Derby Churches.  They fitted shed alarms in an area of the city identified as being a hot spot for shed burglary.  At the end of all the events the Mayor of Derby, Councillor Peter Berry, presented the young volunteers with certificates, to recognise their achievements.
