Residents Help Derby Homes

Residents of Derby Homes, together with Derbyshire Police, have brought about the successful closure of a crack house. Local residents came forward to provide key information, which helped to convince Magistrates to issue a crack house closure on a property at Lambe Court in Rosehill.

Due to local residents being alert to suspicious behaviour in the area, reports were made to Derby Homes about the high number of visitors that were arriving at the house throughout the day and night. Staff were then able to carry out an investigation during a visit to the property at Lambe Court. On entering the property, drugs paraphernalia was found.

An anonymous tip off to Derby Homes provided crucial information. The caller explained that the tenant of Lambe Court had recently been sentenced to 12 months in prison on suspicion of possessing controlled drugs with intent to supply. The anonymous informer went on to say that a friend of the tenant was nowoccupying the property. This information allowed Derby Homes to remove the tenant’s friend from Lambe Court.

On 28 July 2006, Police carried out a raid at Lambe Court as a result of the information provided by residents, and extensive
drugs paraphernalia was found. A resident bravely came forward to stand as a witness in court. Their evidence helped secure the successful outcome of the crack house closure.

Dennis Rees, Chair of Derby Homes Board, said: “This is a good example of what can be achieved when everyone works together. We understand the reluctance of residents to come forward as witnesses, but it is hard to take action without their help”.

Maria Murphy, Director of Housing and Customer Services went on to say: “Derby Homes remains committed to working with partners to improve the quality of life for residents on our estates”.

Anyone experiencing antisocial or nuisance behaviour can contact his or her local Housing Officer, staff at Cardinal Square
or their ward Councillor.

Anyone who is experiencing harassment or violence should go straight to the Police.
