New Tenants and Residents Association

Tenants and Residents of California Gardens and Bemrose Mews have taken the first steps to create a Tenants and Residents Association (TARA). An informal meeting of residents was held on Tuesday 6th August where a temporary committee was set up. Plans are now in place to put together an official body to represent the views of all tenants and residents of California Gardens and Bemrose Mews.

Its responsibilities are to:

•    create a constitution for the association

•    organise the election of officers and general committee members

•    register the association with the statutory authorities.

• •    raise and control funding to undertake the work of the association.

Fifteen residents attended the meeting on 6 August 2006. An action plan was agreed to deal with the urgent problem of refuse
collection plans.

There were several causes for concern and residents signed a petition against the current proposals. The issues that related to the implementation of the plan were resident health and safety, security, lack of consultation and inadequate  communication of information.

This petition was signed by 75% of the residents and was delivered to the Council on Friday 11 August 2006.
