STUDENTS ACROSS THE CITY URGED TO GET TEXTING!
| Young people across the city are being urged to take part in the biggest youth survey ever completed by Derby Homes. Several schools and youth initiatives are already signed up, and many more are expected to follow.
Young people are being asked to text what concerns them about the area where they live, and by taking part in the survey will be entered into a draw to win an iPod nano. There is one prize on offer for each area taking part.
The purpose of this survey is to paint a picture of what young peoples priorities are across the city, and within specific estates. The information will be used to shape future plans and initiatives to address these areas of concern.
Chellaston School is just one of many already taking part – and the response has been excellent. Phil Davies, Chief Executive of Derby Homes said: |

“I am always really impressed by young peoples text messages. My daughters say my text writing is worse than my handwriting, which is saying something.
My colleagues talk to tenants children every day, but we know they aren’t keen to give their views through traditional methods, such as attending meetings and filling out questionnaires. All the schools involved have large council house estates nearby, and we want to know their pupils’ views about our services”
Other areas include DaVinci College, Merrill College, Noel Baker, and youth initiatives in Spondon, Chellaston and the Enthusiasm project in Allenton.
Councillor Sara Bolton, the Cabinet Member for Children and Young People said “I encourage all the young people in these areas to contribute to this project. We need and value your ideas and comments to make the improvements that you want. Just from visiting da Vinci College recently and by speaking to students, young people have some great ideas and do want to get involved, so please help us with this initiative”
