YOU DON’T ALWAYS GET WHAT YOU WANT!
Despite their efforts the Canal Society failed to get the lottery grant, which they had worked so hard to achieve. Judy Flack and her fellow members have overcome many difficulties along the way in their ambitious plans to restore the canal. They will carry on until they achieve their goal.
The competition for funding is very strong and Derbyshire is often a runner up with lottery grants. The same competition is there at a local level with different areas of our city wanting money for various schemes. Some suburbs have influential residents and the priorities have been identified to the detriment of less fashionable areas.
However there is the chance to change this, and attract funding to your area. Community Panels are a great way of raising local issues, and raising the profile of an area. Local Councillors, Police and Derby Homes staff, attend these meetings so there’s always the answer to your question, whether its about housing, anti social behaviour or the environment.
From street lighting to fly tipping, Community Panels are a great way to voice your ideas and concerns. If only more people would use them, then tenants and residents would have a greater, louder voice! So never mind sitting in your comfy armchair complaining - its time to get out there and make a difference! Ok, so you don’t always get what you want... but if you don’t try you’ll never know!
