During February 2010 libraries and Derby Homes offices across the city will be supporting the Scamnesty campaign to help stamp out scam mail.
Do you receive unwanted junk mail, flyers and ‘special offers’?
Letters that say:
• You’ve won a competition
• You can claim a prize if you send a fee
• You could invest in new products
• You could make lots of money
• You are a lucky and could make a fortune
These letters are known as ‘scam mail’ and Derby City Trading Standards want to find out more about the items you receive.
During February 2010 libraries and Derby Homes offices across the city will be supporting the Scamnesty campaign.
If you have items of scam mail you can send them to Derby City Trading Standards, who can then investigate the companies involved. Just post your letters into the Scamnesty mail box at your local library or Derby Homes office.
Sometimes scammers are based overseas, which can make detection and regulation difficult. However, Trading Standards still want to know about the letters they send, as they can warn people about new scams and rip-offs.
Remember - never reply to scam mail.
