DERBY HOMES WINS RoSPA GOLD AWARD
Commitment to health and safety by Derby Homes has been rewarded with a prestigious Gold Award from RoSPA - the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents.
The arms length management organisation, which looks after council housing in Derby on behalf of the City Council, was given the award for dedication to health and safety in its work.
RoSPA is actively involved in the promotion of safety and the prevention of accidents and every year invoted organisations of all sizes to enter their awards. Entering the awards scheme reinforces the message that good health and safety is good business and clearly demonstrates an organisation's commitment to the achievement of high levels of performance in this crucial area.
To qualify for the award Derby Homes' Health and Safety Advisor, Stuart Hufton had to provide a wide range of evidence to show the organisation's commitment to health and safety.
David Rawlins, RoSPA Awards Manager said: "Derby Homes have demonstrated how seriously they take health and safety management and are a fine example to many other companies. We would like to see more organisations following their lead."
Phil Davies, Chief Executive of Derby Homes said: "Health and safety is very important for us at Derby Homes - not just in our offices where our staff work, but also when we are out and about working in tenants homes and on council estates."
Dennis Rees, Chair of Derby Homes said: "Derby Homes' staff and contractors' staff spend a significant amount of time in tenants homes, carrying out all sorts of repairs work - from electric and gas servicing, to major improvement work, so it's vital for our customers that we meet the highest health and safety standards."
Phil Kay, Tenant Board member and the Board's lead member on health and safety said: "Well done to everyone who has given this area a high priority. For health and safety to work you need cooperation between all involved, and we have that in Derby Homes."
Derby Homes will collect the Gold Award at a special ceremony at the Hilton Birmingham Metropole Hotel, on Thursday 24 May.
