Derby Homes Gets the Go Ahead for New Build

Derby Homes and Derby City Council have announced they are to receive funding to begin an exciting £5m building programme.

The programme will involve building around 40 new homes across four locations in the city, with 10 of the properties being retained for use by Derby Homes tenants.

“The programme will provide 8 much needed four bedroomed houses for Derby Homes tenants, plus 2 high spec apartments,” said Dennis Rees, Chair of Derby Homes.  “All of the homes will be built to exceptionally high standards of energy efficiency.  They will use half as much energy and a quarter less water compared to other properties built to current regulations.”

Funding for the building work will come from a combination of a £380,000 grant from the Housing Corporation, plus borrowing from Derby Homes’ income stream, supported by Derby City Council.

The Housing Corporation funding is part of an £8.4 billion National Affordable Housing Programme for 2008-11 that has allocated funds to Arms Length Management Organisations (ALMOs) for the very first time.

“Derby Homes is one of only a handful of ALMOs to receive this grant,” Dennis Rees concluded.  “We see this as a very positive step towards providing the people of Derby with additional high quality housing.”
