CELEBRATING CULTURAL DIVERSITY AT DERBY HOMES
We recently marked the 200th anniversary of the abolition of the Slave Trade at one of our regular Cultural Diversity events.
Derby Homes’ BME staff group organised the event with the Derby Association of Community Partners, the umbrella group for Derby Homes’ tenants. As well as providing a wealth of information, visitors had the opportunity to listen to guest speakers and enjoy fantastic caribbean food including curries, fish and rice dishes.
The event also raised over £430 for Derby Homes’ charity of the year, Umbrella which supports local children and young people with disabilities.
Farooq Malik, Chair of Derby Homes Black Members Group and Housing Services Manager said: “The event was a great success, not only did we raise awareness of the abolition of slavery, we also raised a lot of money for a great cause. The Derby Homes Black Members Group will be arranging a number of cultural diversity events during the year – the next one planned is around the Harvest Festival.”
