AWARENESS RAISING EVENT AT DERBY HOMES
Derby Homes recently supported the UN International day of the Disabled Person by hosting a diversity event at its headquarters.
The event, organised by Derby Homes’ Disabled Employees Network was officially opened by Derby City Deputy Mayor, Councillor Barbara Jackson and attended by staff, tenants and partner agencies including Disability Direct.
Based on this year’s theme of Decent Work for persons with disabilities, there was an interactive display demonstrating some of the most common disabilities, including ‘hidden’ disabilities that affect the daily working lives of colleagues such as diabetes and asthma.
Staff took part in a quiz and raffle, raising over £60 for Derby Homes’ charity of the year, Umbrella, which supports local children and young people with disabilities.
Leon Taylor, Chair of the Disabled Employees Network said: “The event was a great success, particularly in terms of raising awareness of hidden disabilities. This was just one of a number of events we organise to demonstrate and reinforce our commitment to equality of opportunity for our tenants and employees.”
